Car Shows

From high-performance supercars like the Porsche 911 GT3 RS and the Ferrari SF90 Stradale to classic cars like the Shelby Cobra and the Chevrolet Chevelle SS, I love cars! I appreciate the design aesthetics and performance engineering that goes into the personality of each car. I love the way a car provides a sense of freedom and can turn an ordinary drive into an experience. Every car has a character of its own, and that’s what makes photographing them so much fun.

Rather than taking common wide-angle photos, I prefer to get close and focus on the details of cars that make them unique. My motto for this type of photography is “get close and low.” Similar to photographing children, it’s best to get down to your subject’s level, or slightly below, rather than standing straight up and aiming the lens down at your subject. I’ve been known to lay down on the ground in a parking lot to get “the shot.” Another tip: I use a B+W circular polarizing filter to reduce reflections on non-metallic surfaces, particularly glass.

The photos below were captured at four different car shows; the Cruisin’ Sherwood Classic Car Show, San Juan Capistrano Rotary Car Show, Seal Beach Classic Car Show, and the Laguna Hills Car Show. Click or tap on a preview image below for a larger view.
