Car Shows

The images below were captured at three different car shows; the Seal Beach Classic Car Show, the Laguna Hills Car Show, and the San Juan Capistrano Rotary Car Show. Since it was a sunny day during all of the events, I knew I would have to work with the cars' reflective surfaces, mainly the glass. To mitigate this issue, I used a B+W circular polarizing filter which helps reduce reflections on non-metallic surfaces.

Instead of taking common wide-angle photos, I decided to get close and focus on the details of the cars that make them unique. My motto for this type of photography is “get close and low.” Similar to photographing children, it’s best to get down to your subject’s level, or slightly below, rather than standing straight up and aiming the lens down at your subject. I’ve been known to lay down on the ground in a parking lot to get “the shot.”

There were many cars I wished I owned so it was hard to pick out a favorite. I loved the patina paint job on the sky blue Chevy c10 pickup truck. In my opinion, the classic 1965 Shelby Cobra is hard to beat for design. This car screams “drive race me!”
